5 Reasons Why Your Wardrobe Might Not Be Working For You

Updated: Jan 11

Do you open your wardrobe and feel joy? Or do you have plenty of clothes but often find yourself saying 'I have nothing to wear'?

If it's the latter you are not alone. I had a conversation with a friend the other day, that I know she won’t mind me sharing with you, about the struggles she was having with her wardrobe.

She was telling me how unhappy she was with her wardrobe. She doesn’t like her clothes and always ends up wearing a variation of the same thing day in, and day out. Then she told me about some new boots she had bought, she didn’t know when she would wear them but she fell in love with them because they were shiny, and reduced.

As she was telling me this the penny dropped and she realised where she was going wrong with her wardrobe. She wasn’t buying with purpose, she was buying for all the wrong reasons and it has resulted in a wardrobe full of clothes but only a few outfits and a lot of dissatisfaction.

Sound familiar?

If this does sound familiar to you I thought I would share the top 5 reasons why your wardrobe might not be working for you.

You are buying on impulse

When you buy on impulse without really thinking it through this leads to a wardrobe full of clothes and not outfits. Items in your wardrobe should work cohesively, not alone.

You are buying into too many trends

Trends are great to give your wardrobe a seasonal update but too many trends and not enough basics will limit your wardrobe.

You are buying for specific occasions rather than with a long-term view.

When you but solely for one occasion you will end up with a wardrobe full of things you have only worn once. Think about the longevity of that item.

You are not buying enough wardrobe staples.

Think of your staples as the foundations of your wardrobe. Without the foundations in place you can't build outfits.

You are buying too many of the same things.

Think quality over quantity, you don't need 10 pairs of black jeans, just one good pair. Think about adding variety to your wardrobe rather than all the same thing.

Do any of these resonate with you?

If this IS you, next time you go shopping go through this tick list before you buy, it should help you buy with more purpose and start to build a more versatile wardrobe.

Do you LOVE it, and I mean REALLY love it? Not just one part such as the colour, do you love everything about it.

Does it fit, I know this seems obvious but really check that it fits. Are the shoulder seams sitting on your shoulders, are the sleeves/legs the right length?

Does it suit and flatter your shape and colouring?

Can you style it with at LEAST 5 other things in your wardrobe

This list is not exhaustive but it’s a good place to start. I encourage you from now on to only buy ‘wow’ clothes and no more ‘that’ll do’ items. Buy clothes that empower you, make you feel fabulous and stand a little taller. I promise you, you will feel so much better for it.

I see your wardrobe differently to you, I can help you create outfits you never would have thought of and also help you assess and detox what isn’t working for you. Just imagine opening the doors of your wardrobe every day and finally feeling excited to get dressed, that's what happens after a KPA Wardrobe Edit.
